It’s time for Spring Cleaning! When’s the last time you gave your kitchen appliances a good scrub? Here are a few tips for help you do just that…
Supplies – When cleaning your kitchen appliances, remember that your food is prepared or your dishes are cleaned using these appliances. With that said, don’t use a sponge.
TIP 1: Using a sponge is a great way to spread germs from one place to another. Instead, use paper towels sparingly.
TIP 2: When it comes to cleaners, don’t mix ammonia and bleach. The two together can produce toxic fumes.
Microwave – Prep your microwave for cleaning by heating up a mug of water with lemon. The steam will soften the existing food spills and the lemony smell will eliminate a lingering odor. Wipe down the walls of the microwave with a soapy cloth and scrub the tray wheels (if applicable) with a toothbrush. Wipe the exterior with all purpose cleaner and it will look good as new.
Toaster/Toaster Oven – To clean out your toaster or toaster oven, the first thing you should do is empty the crumb tray. You will be surprised at how quickly the crumbs add up, giving your food a burnt smell. Clean the inside with a soapy cloth and pick off any burnt food particles with a toothbrush or credit card. Wipe down the outside with a soapy cloth and make sure all of the knobs and/or doors and scrubbed clean with a toothbrush or small utensil.
Oven – If you don’t have a self-cleaning oven, scrape up any burnt or leftover spills and spray the inside with an oven cleaning disinfectant. Close the oven door and let it sit overnight so the cleaner has time to work it’s magic. When you wake up in the morning wipe the inside down with a warm soapy cloth and it will be as good as new.
